A group of designers from the Lutsk Rapid Response Battalion of the 100th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade has developed a new Raider-2 multifunctional drone. They showed Channel 5 reporters the tests of the drone and explained its features.
The volunteer army built several UAVs and tested them in different conditions, recently tests were carried out at a training ground in the Volyn region. Aircraft parts can be quickly put together in the field, which greatly simplifies their transportation. The fuselage is made of durable plastic, and the car flies with the help of four very quiet electric motors that lift a payload of up to 5 kg.
“They sat well, softly and unharmed. On the grass, it’s practically no different. You still have to adjust a bit to the regulator and you can go into battle,” said the designer named Yuri.
The duration of the Raider-2 flight is about 4 hours, during which it covers a distance of up to 200 km. The developers will install on their drones a protection system for the GMSS receiver so that it can work even under the influence of Russian electronic warfare systems.
You can control the Raider-2 using a monitor or first-person FPV goggles, and it’s hand-launched. The operator receives a real-time image, plus video is recorded and can be reviewed if necessary. Lutsk ROB added that the drone is equipped with several types of cameras, the main camera is located in the bow, allowing you to see perfectly at dusk.
“When the operator arrives and takes off his PPV goggles, it will appear to him as if he were flying during the day and as if it was night,” Yury said.
Raider-2 is capable of both reconnaissance and attack. The creators are working on increasing the aircraft’s payload so it can carry more explosives and equipment, and improve communications and guidance systems. The Lutsk battalion is already ready to produce 50 unmanned aerial vehicles per month for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and in case of additional funding, the scale of production will increase significantly.
Earlier, they wrote that Ukrainian experts have created the Damocles drone, which is already helping the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield. It works for up to two hours and communicates with the operator up to a distance of 60 km. Damocles is designed for reconnaissance and fire setting at altitudes up to 1.5 km.
They also wrote about the unique Ukrainian aircraft Ukropter, developed for the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the company of the same name. Depending on the configuration, it can act as a reconnaissance aircraft, attack aircraft or signal repeater.
