Nyobolt EV, ultra-fast charging electric sports car concept June 14, 2023 24

NioboltBritish electric vehicle battery company partnered with Ian Cullum Design Studio to create electric sports car concept Equipped with a new generation battery capable of recharges very quickly.

The style of the sport is called Niobolt IVvery similar to this Lotus Eliza. This is no coincidence, given that Julian Thomson also collaborated with the project, signing a Lotus Elise S1 contract. Ian Callum and Julian Thomson also worked together for many years at Jaguar. The concept, apart from the design, is a kind of technology laboratory as it uses new Nyobolt batteries.

Just the battery is the most interesting aspect. The company didn’t provide many details, but knew the car could count on battery 35 kWh able to offer range 250 km. But the most important data is the charging capacity. According to the company, it only takes 6 minutes recharge the battery using the current infrastructure. Thus, a new battery having cells with a tungsten anode is able to significantly reduce the time required for recharging.

In terms of reliability, Nyobolt claims to have tested its batteries. over 2000 fast charge cycles without significant loss of performance. The use of “small” batteries, which, however, can be quickly recharged, will allow the creation of lighter cars.

Batteries are no longer a limiting factor in the development of electric vehicles. Technologies like ours, once made reproducible and scalable, will make recharging the same as a conventional gas or diesel tank.

Nyobolt has announced it has closed a £50m (around €58.5m) funding round in 2022 and says it may start production of its new batteries as early as 2024.. According to Autocar reports, the concept weighs 1,246 kg and is powered by a 476 hp engine. (350 kW). Obviously, one could think of a possible limited edition release. The first prototype should hit the road in November. In addition to cars, the batteries developed by the British company will find application in other areas: household appliances, consumer electronics and storage systems.
