A huge unmanned aerial vehicle “Locust-10” was created in the Crimea: they propose to use it in combat (photo)

The drone received slewing ring engines for working in difficult conditions and lifting loads up to 20 kg.

In the occupied Crimea, a large Locust-10 unmanned aerial vehicle was developed, which is proposed to be used for military purposes. The so-called “governor” of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev announced this on Telegram.

“Locust-10”, St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The main distinguishing feature of the model is that the developers called it a screw ring engine, which was supposed to increase the lifting force. This will allow the drone to fly in more difficult conditions, for example in strong winds, over the sea or in the mountains. The device changes the direction of movement by turning the blades, like a helicopter.

As the Russian edition of Izvestia clarifies, the Locust-10 UAV was developed by engineers from Sevastopol State University. Aleksey Chuklin, head of the university’s scientific activities department, said that the unmanned aerial vehicle can be used for both civilian and military purposes.

A spokesperson from the university did not elaborate on how the drone would be useful on the battlefield, but said it can carry payloads of up to 20kg and that the developers are looking to further increase the payload. If that’s true, the Locust-10 can then lift heavy ammunition to launch bombardments. It is also stated that the UAV can operate on battery power for four hours or around the clock if electricity is supplied by cable.

Earlier, they wrote that the Russian army began to supply “domestic” quadrocopters. Soldiers complain of poor build quality: Many of the devices had cameras and propellers installed incorrectly, which even injured occupants.

The Russians recently showcased their new Patriot K30T drone. Experts studied the design of the UAV and determined that it is a Chinese quadcopter EVO II Pro V3 from Autel Robotics, which is available for free on AliExpress.
