Tesla is working on a restyled Model 3. We have seen several spy photos of this updated model and we already know that some technical innovations will be introduced, including new hardware 4.0. Let’s talk about a new computer that controls the driver assistance systems of an American manufacturer of electric vehicles.
Now a very interesting report is coming out of China about the Tesla Model 3 with a single electric motor and rear wheel drive, manufactured in a Shanghai gigafactory. According to the Chinese press, after restyling, this model will receive new LMFP batteries from CATL.
Therefore, in more detail, new CATL batteries will go to restyling Tesla Model 3. with LMFP cells (lithium manganese iron phosphate) which provide a higher energy density than batteries with LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells. According to the report, the batteries will be placed on the electric sedan. 66 kWh (current LFP batteries 60 kWh).
Thus, with new batteries, autonomy should improve. Tesla Model 3 with LFP batteries in China has a range of 556 km on the CLTC cycle. With new batteries, the distance should be about 600 km (again according to the Chinese CLTC cycle). If the ratio is correct, it will be interesting to know charging curve of these new batteries is definitely a very important aspect.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the CATL LMFP battery has been discussed for Tesla vehicles. In August 2022, there were rumors about their use in the Model Y, which has always been built at the Shanghai plant. However, they may indeed appear on the electric SUV, perhaps on the occasion of its facelift, which is expected next year.
Returning to the Model 3, according to some rumors, the start of production of the updated version should be expected in the third quarter of 2023. Thus, the launch will take place in a few months. Therefore, it remains only to wait for additional information about the availability of restyling Tesla Model 3, codenamed “Highlands Project“.
