Pnrr has funded over 4,700 columns for cities. Nothing for expressways July 03, 2023 0

There were many expectations according to the results of the first competition for the allocation of funds to finance the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles. Finally, the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security published the selection results. The news, however, is not very positive.

As a reminder, this first tender provided for an investment of about 150 million euros for the construction of charging stations on motorways. Instead, the amount for columns destined for urban areas was 127 million euros. The ministry has estimated that, given the availability of resources, 2,500 electric vehicle charging stations could be built along highways and 4,000 in urban areas.

NOTHING FOR THE HIGHWAY

According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, over 4700 projects selected build infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in urban centers. It is reported by La Repubblica. Be charged and Enel X Way it was the companies that received the “lion’s share” in this first tender. In total, 70 million euros of contributions will be allocated for columns within the city limits.

This is a positive result for the ministry, given that the goal was to go and install 4,000 columns in urban areas. Recall in this regard that in the urban centers of the column must have a power of at least 90 kW. Thus, funds cannot be used for the construction of 22 kW columns. In addition, we remind you that the loans provided will be used to cover up to 40% of the cost of building charging stations.

What about me charging stations on the roads? Here’s the bad news. The Ministry, in fact, made it clear that Failed to select projects, as several submitted project proposals did not meet the qualification requirements. In this regard, the Ministry has already taken action with the relevant operators to identify the reasons that led to low participation in order to take the most appropriate measures to encourage greater participation.

In this regard, La Repubblica always mentions a number of problems, including the technical-bureaucratic stakes. After all, remember that motus-e has raised concerns in the past about the risk that the Pnrr columns could not be used due to some technical issues.

In any case, the ministry says it is confident in the possibility of returning unused funds. According to the results of the first competition of funds from the NRR for columns, Francis NasoMotus-E secretary commented:

However, we are committed to helping businesses. There is a problem with freeway systems. From this side, we expected such a result. Things have gone better with city centers, but it is clear that the criteria for the next competitions need to be reviewed to ensure that some of the resources are not allocated. It would be a pity. These are resources that are used to implement a network of factories to support the spread of electric vehicles in Italy.

Finally, we recall that the total resources allocated for the construction of infrastructure designed to supply electric vehicles with electricity amount to 713 million euros. By June 30, 2026, more than 21,000 new columns will need to be installed with PNRR funds.
