A new experiment at the Large Hadron Collider: scientists discovered something unexpected

Physicists have discovered an unusual combination of particles never seen before.

Scientists using the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) continue to discover more particles never seen before. During experiments, physicists discovered the first pentaquark to contain a strange quark. ScienceAlert writes that the results of the new discovery will soon be published in Physical Review Letters.

If you don’t know anything about quarks, they are fundamental particles that are the fundamental basis of all matter. It is now known that there are 6 types of quarks: the strange quark, the beautiful quark, the true quark, the down quark, the up quark, and the charm quark. Yes, these are all scientific names. By the way, quark varieties are called flavors.

It is now known that the components of protons and neutrons, that is, the nucleus of an atom, consist of three quarks.

About 50 years ago, physicists announced for the first time that there might be a group of particles called pentaquarks, consisting of four bonded quarks and one antiquark. Eight years ago, experiments at the LHC confirmed for the first time that pentaquarks exist.

4 years ago, experiments at the LHC made it possible to find out what the main structure of pentaquarks consists of. Existing theories once again confirmed that pentaquarks are composed of a meson, that is, a quark-antiquark pair, and a baryon, that is, three quarks.

Now physicists have discovered a new pentaquark structure. It turned out to contain a charm quark, an up quark, a down quark, and a strange quark, as well as a charm antiquark, followed by an oppositely charged charm quark.

Detecting these new particles required very complex calculations and many particle collisions at the LHC, according to the authors of the discovery. But scientists were able to find new models that led them to this conclusion.

Physicists have used the LHC to discover dozens of these exotic particles, named for the way they go beyond two- and three-quark structures.

Scientists now want to go beyond the Standard Model of particle physics to explain some of its anomalies that still exist. For example, this model does not take dark matter into account, suggesting there are phenomena that have yet to be discovered.

Focus he already wrote that scientists are trying to find out where antimatter disappeared in the Universe. A new LHC experiment could help answer that question.

Moreover Focus He wrote about another important experiment at the LHC, where scientists first observed the famous Higgs boson splitting into two parts.

We remind you Focus He wrote about the mysterious twin of the black hole called the white hole. Some scientists believe it exists, while others say it doesn’t. But in fact this is a very interesting object that theoretically exists in the Universe.
