Archaeologists have found a complete skeleton of a giant panda in the tomb of the Chinese emperor.

According to Hu Songmei, an archaeologist from the Shaanxi Academy, a complete panda skeleton has been discovered for the first time in an ancient Chinese tomb. Tigers, tapirs, bison, yaks, takins and other animals have been found in tombs before.

Archaeologists in China say they have found a complete skeleton of a giant panda buried in the tomb of a Chinese emperor who lived more than 2,000 years ago. Reported by The Insider.

Hu Songmei, an archaeologist from the Shaanxi Academy of Archeology, said it’s the first time a complete animal skeleton has been found in an ancient tomb.

His team unearthed a skeleton facing the tomb of Emperor Wen, who was the fifth ruler of the Western Han Dynasty until 157 BC.

The tomb is located near the city of Xi’an in Shaanxi province, the former imperial capital of China.

In past years, archaeologists have found the remains of tigers, tapirs, bison, yaks, takin and several other animals in 20 pits in the corners of the royal garden near Wen’s tomb.

However, one of the skeletons has just been revealed to be a giant panda. DNA analysis was used for this.

According to the archaeologist, the panda found probably belonged to a larger subspecies that differed from the widespread giant panda in Sichuan.

According to the researchers, the finding could be a sign that the climate in the region was several degrees warmer than it is now, and bamboo is growing there, too.

It is also suggested that the animal may have been sent from the south as an offering.

Recall that the red panda escaped from the zoo for the sake of greengrocer. Workers mistook the red panda for a big cat, but the wild animal turned out to be out of its enclosure.

The sighting of a rare albino panda, “the only one of its kind” in the reserve, has also been reported.
