A baby humpback whale races against the ship of Ukrainian polar explorers (video, map)

According to scientists, these whales, called humpbacks or humpbacks, got this name because of their dorsal fin, which gives the body a humpback shape.

Ukrainian polar explorers from the Akademik Vernadsky station captured a unique video of a baby humpback whale appearing to be playing in a race with the ship Noosphere. The National Antarctic Science Center announced this on its official Facebook page on March 27.

The ship was passing through the Penola Strait in Antarctica, where the Akademik Vernadsky station is located nearby.

His senior friend Andrei Starish managed to capture a video of the magnificent humpback whale.

“Looking at its body proportions, scientists determined that this whale was still in its adolescence. Therefore, its mother must be somewhere nearby. Calves are usually breastfed for up to a year, but they begin to calve after six months. The report states that the whale is still in puberty, the same as adult animals, especially krill. It is stated that they can eat the food.

What is known about humpback whales

These whales, called humpbacks or humpbacks, got their name from the dorsal fin, which gives the body a hunched shape, and also from the habit of bending their backs strongly in this fin area when diving.

According to scientists, the length of an adult humpback whale is up to 18 meters and its weight is up to 40 tons, the size of the tail fin of this animal is larger than human height.

“Humpback whales have many activities near the water surface, in particular they jump a lot, make nets from air bubbles while feeding, actively vocalize and gather in groups. Soon, together with the Science kids, we will tell you exactly what these are.” they communicate about incredible creatures,” added scientists Karina Vishnyakova and Vadim Tkachenko.
