The Delta military system now operates with UAVs: why this will radically change the war in Ukraine

The updated system will help commanders of drone units to get a holistic picture of the battle, control many drones simultaneously, and also not lose them due to the movement of friendly electronic warfare systems.

The Ukrainian Delta force control system received the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles and vehicles to plan the work of operators. This was announced by the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov on his Telegram channel.

Delta will now receive secure data from drones. The system will facilitate the work of operators and will have tools for commanders for crew work planning and drone frequency distribution.

“This is a unique experience for the world, which Ukrainian developers from the Innovation Center of the Ministry of Defense presented at the large-scale NATO conference in Dresden TIDE Sprint 2024,” said Fedorov.

In addition, during combat operations, the military will be able to securely broadcast the video to the system and the commander will be able to quickly make decisions based on the data received. It will always monitor the location of drones and get a complete picture of combat operations.

Innovations in Delta will help stabilize the work of drone units and electronic warfare equipment operators: they now often interfere with each other during combat. The improvement will also help coordination with Ukrainian manufacturers of UAVs and electronic warfare equipment: it will be better known how many devices and what frequencies the troops need.

“We are the first country to actively combat UAVs and integrate them into situational awareness systems. Ukraine creates, develops innovations and becomes a trendsetter in defense technologies for the whole world,” the minister said.

The Delta system was developed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense in accordance with NATO standards and is used by all Defense Forces. It brings together all the information from military digital sources, from cameras to drones to chatbots. With its help, commanders at different levels can get a complete digital picture of combat operations. The Delta system was tested by NATO in 2023 and is ready for the integration of Western equipment. The system’s capabilities are constantly updated to better accomplish the mission and meet the new realities of warfare.

“Innovation is our obvious advantage over the enemy. We support the development of technological and innovative digital weapons,” said Mikhail Fedorov.

We remind you that the Ukrainian military command implemented the Delta system in 2023, which gives the Ukrainian Armed Forces an advantage over the Russian army. In it, all information regarding events and situations is collected together. On July 3 last year, the joint press center of the Northern Defense Forces reported on the features of the use of a troop command and control system in which various electronic services of the Ministry of Digital Development of Ukraine are integrated. The system has the ability to exchange data with NATO controls.

In the same month, the Ukrainian Delta system was integrated with NATO equipment. The Army tested Delta’s compliance with NATO protocols during Exercise CWIX. Western military equipment, including F-16 fighter jets, can connect to it via the Link 16 protocol. The exercises tested four information exchange protocols that Western partners transmit to Ukraine. Any equipment that uses them can be connected to Delta.
