December 5, 2022: Martyr Procopius of Caesarea – what not to do today

Today it is better to strictly control your emotions, so as not to let loose. Also, ancient beliefs prohibit borrowing and lending anything – it was believed that in this way a person can transfer his own happiness to another.

What happened today:

Today, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the martyr Procopius of Caesarea.

He was a reader at the Cesarean church in Jerusalem who translated the Scriptures into Syriac and explained church texts. Procopius of Caesarea also healed the sick, supported the poor, and helped the weakened.

The governor of Palestine at that time persecuted Christians. Hearing of Procopius and his miracles, he ordered the reader’s arrest. He had to renounce his faith after his arrest, but he kept his word. For this the preacher was executed. The people called this day “Procopius Day”, “Prokop”, “Vikhostav”, “Procopius”.

On December 5, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Statisticians. International Day of Volunteers in the name of economic and social development – in the world.
