The French businessman and CEO of luxury conglomerate LVMH bought a unique property with his own bond.
Bernard Arnault, who became the richest man in the world last week ahead of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, celebrated this with the purchase of a unique property in the center of Milan: Casa Degli Atellani, formerly owned by Leonardo da Vinci. Artribune writes about it.
Bernard Arnault is a French businessman, chairman and CEO of the LVMH group of companies.
Arno bought Casa Degli Atellani from the descendants of the Conti and Portaluppi families. LVMH representatives did not disclose the amount of the transaction and the purpose of the purchase.
The Casa Degli Atellani residence was built around 1490. Ludovico il Moro, Duke of Milan, gave it to Leonardo Da Vinci in 1498 so that he could create it in comfortable conditions.
Then Leonardo wrote his famous “Last Supper” in a nearby church.
Since then, many owners of Casa Degli Atellani have passed. It was bought in 1919 by Senator and businessman Ettore Conti. He commissioned his son-in-law, renowned architect Piero Portaluppi, to restore the unique property. It was opened to tourists in 2014.
Notable, but the property is Leonardo’s vineyard. Now the only existing wine house in the center of Milan.
Bernard Arnault is known as an art collector and creator of the Louis Vuitton Foundation, which opened in 2014. In 2019, he donated 200 million euros on behalf of his group for the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral.
Arno had previously bought the historic Cova patisserie in Milan.
