Film critics trashed the Aquaman sequel: What’s wrong with the rest of the story?

Critics don’t believe the movie will be a big hit next weekend or during the holiday season in general.

The long-awaited $215 million Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, was not well-received by critics, who were confident that the film would not be a sensation this holiday season.

In James Wan’s project, Jason Momoa returns as Arthur Curry, now the king of Atlantis, who married Mera (Amber Heard), fathered a son, and divided his life between land and sea. He also found an enemy in Black Mantra (Abdul-Mateen II).

The superhero action movie received a 36% rating on Rotten Tomatoes when it was released on December 22, placing it between the ratings of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (29%) and Black Adam (38%).

Critics ripped the DC Extended Universe movie to shreds.

The first wave of reviews assessed the plot to be “cliché” and to have a “childish tone”.

“Tired clichés, a forgettable plot and an ever-changing cast; if this is the last film in the DC Extended Universe, it should sink to the bottom and never be seen again. At 124 long minutes, both the film and the viewer dig deep. Guardian critic Peter Bradshaw said: “But “This is not seawater,” he wrote. He also noted: “The Aquaman series floats in the bleak depths like a discarded plastic bag about to drown.”

IndieWire writes: “As the film delves deeper into its mythos, The Lost Kingdom becomes increasingly formulaic, as if the film is caught between being itself and being nothing.”

Linda Marrick of HeyUGuys noted that the film “struggles with a youthful tone, a flimsy script, and a cast unable to navigate the shifting sands of these issues.”

“Even the cast seems exhausted by the absurdity of this sequel,” Variety added.

Many of the reviews reflect the trend for superhero movies this year, as most comic book adaptations fail to attract audiences. Thus, in a recent Rotten Tomato review of Shazam! “Wrath of the Gods” scored 49% and “The Flash” scored 63%. Blue Beetle performed at an even more impressive 78%.

Even before the negative reviews emerged, Aquaman 2 was the target of negative rumors. In mid-September, Warner Bros. The trailer for the movie Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been released, and disturbing documents in the libel case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have surfaced on Reddit. In them, Heard’s therapist described a hostile atmosphere on the set of Aquaman, where a supposedly drunk Momoa dressed as Depp and insisted Heard be removed from the role of Mera.

A DC representative at the time rejected Heard’s characterization, saying: “Jason Momoa always conducted himself professionally on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”

The therapist’s notes also state that Heard felt unsupported by Wan, the film’s director.

Previously Focus He wrote that the Aquaman sequel was predicted to fail at the box office even before the film’s premiere, and also shared his own opinions about the film.
