WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has filed another appeal against the decision to extradite him to the United States. Such information appeared on August 27 on the website of the organization.
According to the company, Assange has filed “final grounds of appeal” with the High Court in London.
“The defendants are the US government and Home Secretary (of the United Kingdom) Priti Patel”added to WikiLeaks.
In a press release, the company indicated that the papers contain some important new evidence in favor of the founder of WikiLeaks. But what exactly is unknown.
Recall that back in 2010, Julian Assange was charged in Sweden with sexual harassment and rape. But the victims at the same time stated that they testified under duress.
Since 2012, Assange has been hiding from persecution in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, fearing extradition to Stockholm. On April 11, 2019, he was detained at the request of the United States. A London court found the journalist guilty of violating bail conditions and sentenced him to 11 months in prison.
Assange himself is in Belmarsh prison. In the States, 18 criminal charges were filed against him due to the publication of secret documents. He faces 175 years in prison.
On December 10, 2021, a London court granted the United States’ appeal and ruled that Julian Assange could be extradited to the United States. On April 20, the court made a positive decision on extradition.
