Referendums in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions
On August 1, Deputy Head of the Administration of the Kherson Region Kirill Stremousov said that the region is actively preparing for a referendum on joining Russia. On August 8, the head of Zaporozhye, Evgeny Balitsky, signed an order to hold a referendum on reunification with Russia.
On September 19, 2022, the Public Chambers of the LPR and DPR addressed the heads of the republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin with a proposal to immediately hold a referendum on joining Russia. According to Alexander Kofman, chairman of the DPR OP, the time has come to “erase the non-existent border between our states.”
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, suggested that Pasechnik join forces to prepare for the referendum. According to him, appeals about the referendums have become a reflection of people’s opinion, which “has been in the air for a long time.”
In addition, referendums on joining the Russian Federation will be held by Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
