The turnout in the referendum in the Zaporozhye region was 20.52%

According to preliminary data, the turnout in the referendum on joining the Russian Federation in the Zaporozhye region was 20.52% on the first day of voting, the region’s election commission reported.

The data are presented taking into account the voting taking place outside the region, for example, in Russia.

In the LPR, the turnout of citizens was 21.97% on the first day of voting, in the Kherson region – 15.31%.

Italian journalist Eliseo Bertolazi, a foreign observer who follows the voting on the referendum in the DPR, noted the legitimacy of its conduct and the absence of violations.

Referendums in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions

On August 1, Deputy Head of the Administration of the Kherson Region Kirill Stremousov said that the region is actively preparing for a referendum on joining Russia. On August 8, the head of Zaporozhye, Evgeny Balitsky, signed an order to hold a referendum on reunification with Russia.

On September 19, 2022, the Public Chambers of the LPR and DPR addressed the heads of the republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin with a proposal to immediately hold a referendum on joining Russia. According to Alexander Kofman, chairman of the DPR OP, the time has come to “erase the non-existent border between our states.”

The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, suggested that Pasechnik join forces to prepare for the referendum. According to him, appeals about the referendums have become a reflection of people’s opinion, which “has been in the air for a long time.”

In addition, referendums on joining the Russian Federation will be held by Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
