A scandal involving Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida over the dishonest filling of checks during the election campaign is brewing in the country. This is reported by Shukan Bunshun.

It is reported that during Kishida’s election campaign in the summer of 2021, part of the checks issued to her organization are missing the name and surname of the recipient, as well as the purpose of the payment. Thus, 94 such checks were attached to the financial report on the organization of the election campaign, which falls under suspicion of violating the legislation on the organization of elections.

In Japan, such a violation of the law, regardless of its scale, in most cases ends with the resignation of the politician. The exception is cases when the accused manages to prove his own innocence.

It is known that at the moment Fumio Kishida himself is “specifying” the details of the situation.

It is noted that the scandal runs the risk of flaring up against the backdrop of the already rapidly declining popularity of Kishida’s cabinet. Thus, the results of one of the polls show that the rating of the current Japanese government has fallen to a minimum of 27.7 percent. Three resignations of ministers from the new Cabinet, which happened in one month, do not add to his popularity.
