Residents of the United Kingdom have been advised to skip their daily showers to save money and help the planet. With such a call spoke journalist Alec Marsh in an article for The Spectator magazine.
Marsh wondered when a person had the “inalienable right to take a shower every day.” In his article, he cited data from a YouGov survey from 2018, which says that 62 percent of Britons take a shower at least once a day, consuming “enormous amounts of water.” The water that goes into this procedure, according to the journalist, requires cleaning, processing and heating, which “leaves a massive carbon footprint” and negatively affects the environment.
Irrational consumption of water, as Marsh added, turns into large financial losses, since a fifth of all electricity consumed in the house goes to water heating.
“A shower will get you into a cost-of-living crisis faster than you can towel dry after.” – the author of the article concluded with irony, advising to apply this water procedure once or twice a day and use “cologne with a strong smell” if necessary.
This, he says, will save time and reduce carbon emissions.
