World’s oldest tortoise Jonathan celebrates 190th birthday (photo, video)

Jonathan is recognized as the oldest Chelonian in the world. This is a Guinness World Records category that covers turtles and aquatic turtles.

The world’s oldest tortoise, Jonathan, who has survived two world wars, eight British monarchs and 40 US presidents, has celebrated his 190th birthday, according to NPR.

During the life of the turtle, the first human photograph was taken in 1836, the first telephone call was made in 1876, the first skyscraper was made in 1885, the first powered flight was made in 1903, the first people landed. month in 1969.

Jonathan celebrated this event with a three-day party on an island in the South Atlantic and in Saint Helena, the British Overseas Territory, where he spent most of his long life (minus his first 50 years).

Jonathan is believed to have been born in 1832, but he could potentially be even older. His estimated age is based on the fact that he was fully mature in 1882 when he was brought to Saint Helena from the Seychelles as a gift to the then-Governor.

An old photograph of an adult Jonathan grazing on the lawn at the governor’s mansion called Plantation House between 1882 and 1886 further supports this theory, according to the Guinness Book of Records. He has lived there ever since and now enjoys the company of three giant tortoises named David, Emma and Fred.

Guinness Book of Records announced D.Jonathan became the world’s oldest Chelonian (a category that includes Chelonian tortoises and aquatic turtles) in January, three years after he was named the oldest known living land animal.

The government of Saint Helena announced in early 2022 that Jonathan is blind and has lost his sense of smell, but has excellent hearing and loves to be with people.

Jonathan’s favorite foods include cabbage, cucumber, carrot, apple, banana and lettuce. Veterinarian Joe Hollins described the animal’s main interests as sleeping (in the sun or under mown grass, depending on the temperature), eating and mating.

“Jonathan still has a good libido despite his age and is often seen mating with Emma and sometimes Fred – animals are usually not particularly sensitive about sex!” said Hollins.

Jonathan has been seen as a gay icon for some time now. In 2017, guards discovered during a medical procedure that his girlfriend of almost thirty years, Frederica, was not actually a woman; .

This is just an interesting facet of Jonathan’s exciting life. The second is that she first took a bath a few years ago, at the mature age of 184.

Governor Nigel Phillips hosted a turtle anniversary celebration to coincide with the annual popular Plantation House Christmas Market with Jonathan-themed souvenirs.

The birthday boy was served a special salad cake with some of his favorite foods such as tomatoes and bananas.

Recall that the Guinness Book of Records named the oldest cat in the world.
