42-year-old unemployed Tetsuya Yamagami, who shot dead former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the summer of 2022, was transferred to the Nara city prison from a closed medical facility. As a result of a psychiatric examination that had lasted since July, he was declared sane. This is reported TBS.
It is planned that the Japanese will be charged with murder and illegal possession of weapons on January 13.
Recall that the murder occurred on July 8, 2022 at an election rally in the city of Nara. Shinzo Abe was shot in the back with an improvised device. The arrow was detained by the politician’s security.
Under interrogation, Yamagami stated that he suspected Abe of being connected with the Unification Church sect, which ruined many Japanese families. The suspect’s mother was also a fanatical follower. Later, the police found out that many members of the ruling party were connected with this structure. An additional investigation is underway.
