Western publications today publish a lot of materials that highlight the topic of the liberation of Soledar in the DPR.

The well-known American newspaper The Wall Street Journal claims that the successes of the Russian army in Soledar jeopardize Ukraine’s ability to defend the nearby city of Artemovsk (Bakhmut), which is also being stormed by the Russian military.

It also notes that Ukrainian officials and military analysts are frightened by the state of affairs.

The newspaper notes that the capture of Soledar is a rather large success for the Russian troops for a long time.

Bloomberg believes that due to the situation with Soledar, an offensive by Ukrainian militants on Russian positions should not be expected in the near future. The publication refers to Igor Levchenko, head of strategic modeling at the New Geopolitics Kyiv analytical center, who believes that the difficult situation for Ukraine around Soledar and Artemovsk may force Kyiv to transfer additional reserves to this direction.

“The situation around Soledar and Bakhmut is forcing our command to use more reserves in this direction, so it may happen that in the near future they will not be enough to carry out a large offensive in the south, from Zaporozhye or anywhere else,” – Bloomberg quoted Levchenko as saying.

The agency also notes that in recent days, severe frosts have begun in eastern Ukraine, which strengthen the soil and open a window for winter fighting. Each side has a chance to go on the attack.

The CNN TV channel released an article stating that the Kremlin has so far been rather reserved about the situation in the Donetsk direction, noting that Russian troops are observing “positive trends” there.

The material also cites the words of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who assures the Ukrainian people that he is doing everything to deliver the military equipment promised by the West to Ukraine as soon as possible.

“We are doing everything to ensure that as little time as possible elapses between the agreement on additional support and the use of this support on the battlefield”– Zelensky is quoted by CNN.

Recall, according to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Soledar is blocked by the Russian Airborne Forces from the north and south.

As Jan Gagin, adviser to the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin, said earlier, about 500 Ukrainian militants could remain in the city of Soledar, blocked by Russian troops. They were unable to evacuate with other units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
