US President Joe Biden on Wednesday, January 25, during a speech at the White House, confirmed that Washington would supply Kyiv with 31 Abrams tanks.

“The United States will send Ukraine 31 M1 Abrams tanks – this is the equivalent of one Ukrainian battalion. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recommended this step,” he said.

He said that the delivery of weapons will take time, but the United States will quickly begin training the crews of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for them.

Earlier it was reported that Biden discussed plans to supply weapons to Kyiv with the leaders of France and Germany – Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz, as well as the prime ministers of Italy and Great Britain – Giorgi Meloni and Rishi Sunak.

On the eve it became known that Scholz decided to send 14 Leopard 2 heavy tanks to Kyiv. This decision was met quite negatively in society – both among the politicians of the Bundestag and among the population.

On the one hand, they are dissatisfied with the chancellor because of the decision to give the tanks to Ukraine after all, on the other hand, because he made the decision for too long. Thus, Bundestag deputy Norbert Rettgen said that Washington would not forget Scholz’s refusal to send tanks without the participation of the United States for a long time.

As Russian State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik noted, Scholz does not have a will of steel, since he nevertheless went on about the demands “from across the ocean” and decided to transfer the tanks to Kyiv. Local residents also agree with the statement about “go on about”.
