Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called the Normandy format of negotiations on Ukraine a “diplomatic imitation”.

“There were countries involved in the Normandy process, in the Minsk agreements, but all this was not moving anywhere … In 2014, we failed, we did not do what we had to do. Sanctions against (Vladimir) Putin should have been imposed in 2014 … We then applied some sanctions, launched this diplomatic imitation called the Normandy Process and achieved nothing, and Putin concluded that the West would not stop him,” he said in an interview with the Ukrainian channel Rada.

The politician gave an interview to the TV channel at the end of January, when he came to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Normandy format of negotiations on Ukraine has been in force since June 2014. Then, during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy, the heads of Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France discussed the settlement of the conflict in Donbass for the first time. The last summit in this format was held on December 9, 2019.
