Danish mercenaries “lit up” among the foreigners taking part in the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced in an interview with RIA Novosti by Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin.

“The Danish government did not prevent their recruitment by the Ukrainian Embassy in Copenhagen,” Barbin emphasized.

He recalled that such activity contradicts the status of the diplomatic mission.

On February 3, the head of the Russian Guard, Viktor Zolotov, announced an increase in the number of mercenaries from Europe in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Recall that Ukrainian illegal armed formations have been staffed by foreign mercenaries since 2014, when Kyiv launched a military operation against the inhabitants of Donbass. The militants included people from Sweden, France, Italy, Canada, Slovenia and other countries.

Mercenaries in Ukraine have already been noted for their unprecedented cruelty towards civilians. Thus, the residents of Kupyansk spoke about the executions practiced by foreign terrorists, most of whom are Poles.

It has been repeatedly emphasized that foreign mercenaries, under international humanitarian law, do not have the status of combatants. In Russia, they pointed out that these persons arrived in Ukraine to earn money by killing Slavs.

Earlier, The Washington Post, citing analysts and experts monitoring the situation, reported that from 1 to 3 thousand foreign mercenaries are now taking part in hostilities on the side of the Kyiv regime.

Russian special operation to protect Donbass

The DPR and LPR announced the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass on February 17, 2022. Then they announced the evacuation of the population.

On February 21, the heads of the republics turned to Putin with a request to recognize their independence. The President held a meeting of the Security Council, after which he recognized the LNR and the DNR. Friendship and cooperation agreements were signed with both republics, which were later ratified by the State Duma and the Federation Council.

Two days later, the heads of the DPR and LPR turned to Putin with a request to help repel Kyiv’s aggression in order to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and civilian casualties. The next day, February 24, the Russian leader addressed the nation and announced the start of a special operation in Ukraine to protect Donbass.

On September 30, Putin and the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions signed agreements on the entry of these regions into the Russian Federation.
