At least 237 people were killed and 639 injured in Syria, according to the news of the Syrian state news agency SANA, citing a spokesperson for the health ministry on 6 February. The largest number of victims are in the provinces of Latakia, Aleppo, Hama and Tartus.

According to local media reports, health teams from Homs and Tartus and 11 ambulances were sent to Aleppo, and 15 mobile clinics were distributed to different places for the treatment of the injured. to cooperate with other emergency services, fire brigades and civil defense in all provinces.

This brings the total death toll in Turkey and Syria to at least 521.

Some media outlets point out that this is one of the most severe earthquakes in Turkey in the last 100 years. It caused tremors throughout the region, demolished buildings and forced residents to take to the streets.

At the same time, the Russian propaganda publication RT, quoting the Syrian Museum Office, reported that the UN World Heritage Site Aleppo Citadel was damaged during the earthquake. It is reported that the historical castle of Gaziantep was also destroyed.

Recall that the epicenter of an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale was recorded 37 km from the Turkish city of Gazantiep, with a population of about one million.

Earlier, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake was reported in the Transcarpathian region on January 3. The locals felt the tremor.
