When joining NATO, Finland and Sweden can legislate the refusal to deploy nuclear weapons on their territories and limit the presence of the Alliance contingent. This was stated on February 10 by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko in an interview “Izvestia“.

“Stockholm and Helsinki have for many years occupied positions of non-alignment with military alliances and neutrality. And then overnight – without extensive discussion with the population – they decided to quickly join NATO. Against this background, the current position of the Finns and Swedes regarding the lack of intentions to accept nuclear weapons on their territory we take note, but we will judge not by words, but by deeds. said the diplomat.

He also noted that Finland and Sweden must understand that Russia will respond to the growing threat from NATO, respectively.

In addition, earlier Grushko stressed Russia’s readiness to interact with the European Union if the EU reconsiders its fate and independent role in a multipolar world.
