After the photo on Vyshyvanka: actor Alexander Filippenko left Russia

The Russian actor spoke out against the military aggression of the Russian Federation and supported Ukraine. At the end of last year, the Moscow City Council Theater did not renew Filippenko’s contract due to his political position.

Theater and film actor, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Alexander Filippenko left Russia as a sign of disagreement against military aggression against Ukraine and the country’s foreign policy. His daughter, Alexandra Filippenko, spoke about this on February 9 on the broadcast of the opposition TV channel Dozhd.

According to the woman, the departure of the 78-year-old artist is directly related to her political position due to the all-out war against Ukraine.

In November 2022, the Moscow City Council Theater did not renew the contract with the artist. Prior to that, Filippenko played in four theatrical performances, including the role of the ghost father Hamlet in the production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. As “Rain” clarifies, her name is still on the posters but at the box office they say the next performance won’t take place with her February 11 debut.

In parallel with this, city venues in Russia began to refuse the organizers of their concerts.

As a result, Filippenko decided to leave the country and moved to the capital of Lithuania, the city of Vilnius.

Oleksandr Filippenko: Support for Ukraine

On May 19 last year, on Vyshyvanka Day in Ukraine, Oleksandr Filippenko posted on his social networks a photo of himself sitting at a table in an embroidered shirt.

“I remember Kiev only in the words of Gogol: “Chichikov looked at the houses, the walls, the fences and the streets with a kind of vague feeling, God knows, that fate had judged to see him again all his life. “Not all my life, of course, but in my memories – Dovzhenko’s studio, chestnuts, friends, comfort and warmth,” the actress commented.

In a comment to “Rain”, her daughter remembered this photo.

“My father decided to take off his embroidered shirt and remember the wonderful days at the Dovzhenko studio in Kiev, and first of all he wrote some words of love to his friends who were there,” he said.

Even before the full-blown invasion, Filippenko participated in human rights campaigns in Russia, speaking specifically in support of political prisoners, including Ukrainian director and writer Oleg Sentsov, who was a Kremlin hostage.

Recall that on February 8, 84-year-old People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Liya Akhedzhakova announced that she was excluded from the repertoire of the Sovremennik Theater, where she worked for 45 years. The reason is his anti-war stance.
