Moscow recommends that the Moldovan authorities be more careful regarding the issue of peacekeepers from Russia in Transnistria (PMR). This was stated to journalists by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

Journalists asked Peskov to respond to the statements of the new Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, who had previously stated the need to demilitarize Transnistria and withdraw peacekeepers from Russia. In particular, Rechan believes that this is how the Russian side allegedly tries to “influence democratic processes” in Moldova.

“Our Moldovan counterparts would like to recommend to be very, very careful with this” said the press secretary of the President of Russia.

He added that Moscow continues to responsibly fulfill its own function in the PMR.

“Russia has been and is a very responsible party in terms of Transnistrian affairs, continues to perform its respective function”– concluded the representative of the Kremlin.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Moldovan President Maia Sandu is ready to unite Moldova with Romania. The minister also added that Sandu “is eager to join NATO.” The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that the West is eyeing Moldova for the role of a “second Ukraine.”

In January, Sandu, in an interview with Politico, allowed herself to give up her non-bloc status in order to join NATO. However, she added that such a decision can be made democratically.
