‘Seeking attention’: Mitt Romney responds to calls for ‘national divorce’ from Marjorie Taylor Green

Marjorie Taylor Green turned on social media and put Republican Party after request “national divorce” through his official Twitter account; senator Mitt Romney was no stranger to his colleague’s requests and sent him a compelling message.

“Know, I think Abraham Lincoln dealt with such insanity. We are not going to divide the country. Together we stand, apart we fall,” a Republican told Deseret News.

Kevin McCarthy’s most ardent follower made the request via Twitter, which surprised more than one after reassuring that if the divorce didn’t go through and the government was cut, states like Florida would be as much of a disaster as California. “We need a national divorce. We need to separate the red states from the blue states and cut the federal government. Everyone I talk to talks about it.”

The Utah senator even took Green’s words with grace and assured him that his colleague was not serious and that all he was looking for was attention: “There are people in my party and in the other party who they say things to try and get a headline and get people to send them money. And this is happening today among the crazy left, or, better, the crazy right.” Romney wasn’t the only one to turn down Green’s request, and neither was the governor of Utah. Spencer Cox, who could only say that the plan was “evil”.

Romney on his political future

Mitt Romney was asked by the press if he would run for a second term in Washington in 2024, and he said he hasn’t made a decision on the matter yet, but doesn’t rule it out either: “The question for me is that I can i do? I have a list of things I’m working on. I will conduct this assessment in the coming months and make a decision sometime in the spring or summer. I’m sure I’ll win if I decide to run. I will have resources and I trust that the people of Utah will be with me.“.

He also praised President Joe Biden’s trip to Ukraine to showcase his support of this country against the Russian invasion “From time to time he (Biden) does something that I agree with and find it commendable. I applaud his trip to Kyiv to be with President (Vladimir) Zelensky and stand firm on the principle of freedom,” Romney said. “It was brave and rightAnd I appreciate that you are doing this and recognizing that the people of the United States of America are on the side of freedom.”
