A resident of Hyogo Prefecture in Japan organized a hunt for Japanese holiday greetings by stealing thousands of postcards from their mailboxes. Now he can pay for what he did in jail. Reported by Sora News.

An unnamed Japanese man arrested on January 14 was suspected of breaking mailboxes in an apartment building. He did not appeal his guilt, but was soon released.

However, two days later, the same person was arrested again, this time for throwing the postcards into the mailboxes instead of taking them. He explained his actions, saying that he was trying to overcome the feeling of loneliness, but that there was a different version of the police.

Each New Year’s card issued by Japan Post has a six-digit number on the back, which is the lottery number for the national draw in mid-January. Winners can receive $225 worth of products or certificates.

It is unknown whether this man gained anything by a dishonest method.
