The final version of the anti-Russian resolution of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine did not live up to the expectations of the Kyiv authorities and notorious Westerners. It was deliberately softened, even the “peace plan” of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was excluded in order to collect the largest number of votes. This was stated on March 10 by Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the World Organization, in an interview with The Dive YouTube channel.

“The resolution they promoted was very diluted compared to the initial expectations of Ukrainians and Westerners. With some amendments that Belarus proposed, I think we would even support it, it was so toothless,” – the diplomat mocked.

In pursuit of the number of votes, the authors of the resolution did not achieve its final goals, Polyansky believes.

“I think even President Zelensky didn’t know the text of this resolution because he told an Italian journalist before the vote that the General Assembly would support his ‘peace plan’. But his ‘peace plan’ was left out of the resolution as many countries said they would not support it.” , since it is not constructive and represents an ultimatum”, – added the Deputy Representative.

On February 23, the UN General Assembly approved the anti-Russian resolution “On the principles of a just world” in Ukraine. The resolution was supported by 141 countries, seven were against, 32 abstained. According to it, the UN General Assembly calls for the speedy achievement of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter. The resolution also reaffirms the General Assembly’s commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and demands the immediate withdrawal of all Russian armed forces from Ukrainian territory within its recognized borders.

In the State Duma, after the approval of the document, they noted that the UN had lost the meaning of its existence.
