Saakashvili blamed “Russian agents” for his poisoning

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili blamed his poisoning on alleged “Russian agents who had infiltrated the special services of Georgia.” He stated this in an interview with the American newspaper Politico on March 23.

The publication did not provide any proof of Saakashvili’s words. The words of the former president were conveyed to Politico by his American lawyer Massimo D’Angelo.

“In the institution where I am, the main decisions on treatment are made by the security services, not by the doctors – they appoint the entire medical staff,” Saakashvili said.

On March 5, the former president in an interview with Bild complained about feeling unwell and stated that he had almost doubled his weight.

Earlier it was reported that a court in Tbilisi refused to release Mikheil Saakashvili on health grounds and reprieve. Shortly before that, at a remote meeting, the ex-president had to be naked in order to demonstrate his weight.

At the beginning of the year, his mother announced that Saakashvili was in a serious condition. This happened after the politician became ill at the next court session. According to the lawyer, his client suffers from dementia and tuberculosis.
