Several states in the southeastern and southern United States remain on high alert due to torrential storms and tornadoes. it could also affect the state of Mississippi, which is trying to recover from Friday’s events that killed at least 25 people.
The National Weather Service said Sunday it had issued a tornado watch for south and central Alabama.
“Severe tornadoes and very large hail can occur during the strongest storms this afternoon and evening, especially from central Louisiana through central/southern Mississippi and Alabama,” the National Weather Service’s (NWS) Storm Prediction Center said.
In Atlanta, the NWS mentioned on Twitter: “We’re not done with the flood threat tonight! Another 2-4 inches of rain is expected until tomorrow.”
For its part, the National Weather Service also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of west-central Georgia.
The warnings come two days after a series of tornadoes hit the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee Friday night, killing 26 people.
Severe tornadoes, severe hail and scattered destructive gusts of wind are possible in the area.
A tornado watch has also been issued for eastern Louisiana and south-central Mississippi, where there may be multiple tornadoes, hail and wind.
Approximately 30 million people live in the affected area and will be affected by these events occurring at night.which makes them more dangerous, the Met Office said.
“Nighttime tornadoes are dangerous as they are difficult to spot in the dark and many people are asleep or unaware of the weather at night.”, – he said in a message via social networks.
