According to Maria Lvova-Belova, the teenager has a sister in Ukraine. She tried to get back to him via Belarus but was detained. The Ukrainian Ombudsman reacted.
Russian Commissioner for the Rights of the Child, Maria Lvova-Belova, said that the Russian special services did not allow the Ukrainian teenager to return to Ukraine. So they detained him in Belarus and handed him back to a “protective family”. Lvova-Belova spoke about this at a press conference on April 4.
According to him, the boy named Bohdan Ermokhin from Mariupol was first taken by Russian troops to occupied Donetsk. He was later exiled to Russia and given to a foster family. In Ukraine, Bogdan has a sister. He wanted to return to her through Belarus, but the Russian special services did not allow this. The Russian official noted that he was allegedly threatened by some “Ukrainian curators”.
Lvova-Belova also pointed to allegations that Bogdan was part of a group of children “abandoned” by their parents when the Russian army bombed and bombed Mariupol.
The reaction of the Ukrainian Ombudsman
Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmitry Lubinets reacted to Lvova-Belova’s statement in his Telegram. He said that the boy’s name is really Bogdan Ermokhin. He is 17 years old and a citizen of Ukraine, where his sister is waiting for him.
“It should be noted that this young man has Ukrainian citizenship. Therefore, as Lvova-Belova noted, his forced transfer to the territory of the aggressor country is not “liberation”, but a crime,” wrote Lubinets.
For him, Bogdan’s story is further proof that Russia is committing war crimes against Ukrainian children. Maria Lvova-Belova prepared a report on the alleged “aid” to children affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“I emphasize once again that these are our Ukrainian children and that Russia will answer for every crime,” said Lubinets.
Recall that at the same press conference, Maria Lvova-Belova complained from Mariupol about the behavior of her “son”. According to him, children removed from Ukraine are saturated with “eight years of propaganda” and therefore Russian parents need to be prepared.
On March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin and the Russian President’s Commissioner for the Rights of the Child, Maria Lvova-Belova. The reason for this was the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to the territory of the Russian Federation, and this harmed Ukrainian children.
