According to media reports, they want to impose sanctions on former officials and government supporters, primarily linked to the Fidesz party, led by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The US Congress is drafting a bill for sanctions against Hungarian officials linked to the Viktor Orban government. This was reported by The Guardian on April 13.

The draft law has been prepared since last year. The bill is expected to be presented to Congress next month and garner broad support, according to officials.

According to the publication, the development of this law is associated with the rapid deterioration of bilateral relations between Hungary and the USA.

Note that this is the first time the United States has imposed sanctions against people close to Orban. In 2014, Washington banned several Hungarian officials from entering the United States, including the head of the national tax office, on suspicion of corruption. But at the same time, the names of certain people were not called.

Recall, on April 12, it was learned that the USA wanted to punish some Hungarians for evading Western sanctions. This information was shared by Reuters media citing a source familiar with the situation.
