According to court documents filed on Wednesday, Teixeira’s appointed public defender, Brendan Kelly, requested more time today to look into US government allegations, and Judge David Hennessy accepted it.
News outlets reported that Teixeira, a member of the National Guard who was arrested last week and accused of leaking classified US Army documents online, briefly appeared in federal court in Massachusetts.
On Friday, a young man who worked at an air base in that state was charged with crimes related to the transfer and extraction of classified information after dozens of documents from the Department of Defense were published on the Internet.
These documents contain data addressed to US intelligence and military officials about the country’s spying on its allies and the prospects for a war in Ukraine, among other things.
This week, the Pentagon announced a 45-day “thorough” investigation of its security systems following the leak.
