A hypothetical military conflict in Taiwan could disrupt 40% of global trade. This was stated by Foreign Minister of the unrecognized republic Joseph Wu.

“War in Taiwan would disrupt more than 40% of world trade”he said in an interview with the newspaper ABC.

Wu clarified that geographic location matters. More than 40% of goods transported around the world cross the Taiwan Strait. The island also produces up to 60% of all microcircuits and up to 90% of semiconductors.

Based on this, the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry asked the United States to send troops.

Recall that in April it was reported that the US Navy signed a contract with the American company Boeing for the production and supply of 400 Harpoon anti-ship tactical missiles and related equipment in the amount of $ 1.7 billion. At the time, the Pentagon did not specify whether these missiles were intended for Taiwan.

In March, it also became known that the US State Department approved the possibility of supplying the island with missiles for F-16 fighter jets, as well as other weapons and systems for a total of $619 million.

The American side assumes that the arms trade will allegedly contribute to the political stability and progress of the region.
