“For spare parts”: how Ukraine uses faulty Western equipment

The West supplies Ukraine with defective weapons, which Kyiv has to dismantle for spare parts. This was reported on April 23 by The Economist.

In particular, we are talking about Polish and Slovak MiG-29 aircraft.

“In recent weeks, Poland and Slovakia have delivered about eight MiG-29 fighters, but their number is also limited. Many of the aircraft are unfit for flight and are used for spare parts,” – noted in the publication.

According to The Economist, Kyiv is demanding combat aircraft from the West to replace air defense systems, for which the Ukrainian Armed Forces have literally run out of missiles. The current Ukrainian air fleet is not capable of effectively shooting down Russian missiles, drones and aircraft.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky began to demand that NATO supply military aviation to Kyiv almost immediately, as soon as the sending of German and American tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine was approved. In mid-April, Slovakia handed over 13 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stressed that any shipments of weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for the Russian Aerospace Forces. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the supply of weapons would not stop, but would prolong the conflict in Ukraine, and called the position of Western countries harmful and counterproductive.
