Moscow closes Red Square to visitors

The restrictions will remain in effect for at least two weeks. The Russians will also close the entrance to the Kremlin and the mausoleum of Vladimir Lenin, as warned by the Federal Security Service.

Red Square will be closed to visitors from April 27 to May 10 due to preparations for the parade on May 9. This was reported by the Russian news agency “Interfax”, with reference to the message of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSO).

“In connection with the preparation and holding of ceremonial events dedicated to the celebration of the 78th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, Red Square will be closed to the public from April 27 to May 10, 2023.” FSO said in a statement.

We also note that from May 23 to May 14 the Russians are not allowed to visit the Lenin Mausoleum. According to Russian media, the entrance to the monument was closed for the same reason as the square – preparations for the parade.

It will also be impossible to enter the Moscow Kremlin from May 7-9.

Parades in Russia on May 9 canceled

On 20 April, it was learned that the Russian Ministry of Defense decided not to hold a military parade in occupied Sevastopol on 9 May. At the same time, they plan to organize “festival celebrations” in the city.

Earlier on April 10, it was reported that in the Kursk region on the border with Ukraine, authorities decided not to hold a parade on May 9 for “security reasons”. For the same reasons, the authorities of the Belgorod region the day before began to talk about the cancellation of the parade.

Recall that on April 25, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that on the occasion of May 9 this year, only one foreign leader will come to the parade in Moscow. The presidential spokesman claims that foreign leaders will not come to Russia on the occasion of May 9 this year due to “history is not round”, and allegedly Moscow did not even send an invitation.
