German MEP Gunnar Beck commented “Izvestia” the decision of the United States to stop transferring information about weapons to Russia under the New START.

According to him, such actions were expected after Russia suspended its participation in the START.

The politician clarifies that this decision will not entail any particular danger.

“It was to be expected that the United States would react to Russia’s suspension of the treaty. It is logical that the United States decided not to report to Russia. It seems to me that this is an adequate reaction, which does not mean a direct escalation and, therefore, does not pose a great danger to world peace,” Beck said.

At the same time, he noted that Russia could also retaliate against these US actions, which would exacerbate the contradictions.

“There is a danger, of course, that another Russian and then an American response will follow. I think it could be dangerous, but now I would not talk about escalation. At the same time, the situation in Ukraine, of course, can escalate relatively quickly, but not specifically because of this US decision”said the MP.

According to him, counterreaction is a common phenomenon in diplomacy.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that there were no agreements on the resumption of the dialogue between the United States and Russia on strategic security.
