According to journalists, the president of France will ask the prince of Saudi Arabia to put pressure on Russia, so the Kremlin will decide to reduce tensions.
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomes Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on June 16 for talks on the war in the Middle East and Ukraine. Politico writes about it, citing its sources.
It is reported that the French politician will insist that the Saudi prince use his influence over Russia. So Salman will spend a whole week in Paris. He is expected to take part in the signing of the New Global Financial Pact.
The publication writes that Macron and Salman previously met in July last year. Previously, Saudi Arabia had taken an ambiguous position regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Thus, the country voted for UN resolutions condemning the actions of the Russian Federation but refusing to increase oil production as requested by the United States. This could have a negative impact on the Kremlin’s oil revenues.
An unnamed Elysée official told reporters that France had asked Saudi Arabia to help Ukraine accelerate victory in the war.
“Based on conversations, we know they share this vision,” the source said.
The talks between Macron and Salman will reportedly also focus on how they can help restart relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran and resolve tensions in Lebanon.
Recall that on June 12, Macron said that the Ukrainian counteroffensive would last for several months. The President of France noted the “superiority” of the Ukrainian military command in terms of tactics and organization. According to him, the counterattack operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was planned for a long time, and France began to supply Kiev with more weapons, shells and armored vehicles.
Also on June 1, Zelensky and Macron approved a treaty against the Russian Federation. The Presidents expressed their readiness to develop the framework conditions for starting the training of Ukrainian fighter pilots and to strengthen the air force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
