According to preliminary data, the object discovered in the Braniewo area is a weather balloon. Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Poland reported from Twitter.
As stated in the department, the relevant authorities are currently investigating this case.
Citing law enforcement, local publication PAP.pl reported that Warmian-Masurian police delivered an unknown air object similar to a balloon to the army.
Press officer Rafał Jackowski said that at noon on June 30, a local resident informed law enforcement that he had found an object resembling a balloon in the Braniewo area. Police teams went to the scene and took the item found, and then it was handed over to the military.
According to Medya Fakt.pl, the balloon was found in the commune of Pieniężno, near the military base in Braniewo, where the 9th Braniew Armored Cavalry Brigade named after King Stefan Batory is located.
Journalists also note that there are Russian inscriptions on the object.
Recall that in early April, US officials confirmed that a Chinese spy balloon flying over the US was able to gather intelligence from several secret US military installations before being shot down.
British Defense Ministry military intelligence expressed the opinion that the balloons dropped over Ukraine between 12-15 February were most likely Russian. According to the military, the balloons were launched to reveal the location of the Ukrainian air defense.
