‘We love each other’: mayor marries reptile he calls ‘princess girl’

In Mexico, a mayor married a female crocodile in a traditional ceremony believed to bring good luck to his people. The marriage between a man and a woman caiman has been here for 230 years.

Victor Hugo Sosa, mayor of San Pedro Huamelula, a Chontal indigenous city on the Tehuantepec Isthmus in Mexico, married a reptile named Alicia Adriana, who was repeating her ancestral ritual. Sky News writes about it.

The man swore to stick to what local legends called the “princess girl” legend.

During the ceremony, the mayor said, “I take responsibility because we love each other. That’s what matters. Without love there is no marriage … I agree to marry a princess girl.”

The union between a male and a female caiman has been held here for 230 years in honor of the day the two indigenous groups reconciled by marriage. According to tradition, friction was overcome when the Chontal king, personified today by the mayor, married a princess, a girl from the Wawa indigenous group, represented by a female crocodile. Uave lives on the coast of Oaxaca, not far from this inland city.

“The wedding allows the parties to connect with what is the emblem of Mother Earth, to ask the almighty powers of rain, germination of the seed, all that is peace and harmony for the Chontal man,” explains San’s historian, Jaime Zarate. Pedro Huamelula.

Before the wedding ceremony, the reptile is taken from house to house so that the residents can pick it up and dance. The animal is dressed in a green skirt, a colorful hand-embroidered tunic and a cap made of ribbon and sequins. The creature’s nose is tied to avoid any premarital affairs. She is then dressed in a white bridal gown and taken to the town hall for a consecrated event.

As part of the ritual, Joel Vasquez, a local fisherman, throws his net and expresses the city’s hope that the marriage will bring “good fishing so that there is an opportunity to live in prosperity, balance and peace.”

After the wedding, the mayor dances with his bride to traditional music.

“We are happy because we celebrate the merging of two cultures. People are happy,” Sosa said.

When the dance is over, the king kisses the “princess girl” face.

Previously Focus He wrote that the bride, who learned the groom’s secret before the wedding, almost fainted. She found her future husband in the toilet, where she was breastfed by her own mother.

The bride reportedly died during the wedding and was immediately replaced by a younger sister. At the wedding ceremony, Hetal complained of dizziness and suddenly fainted. Doctors at the hospital only reported that the girl died. But the father of the deceased bride suggested that the groom play a holiday with his sister. He agreed.
