AMLO pledges to eradicate violence in Mexico as it celebrates the fifth anniversary of its 2018 election victory.

Thousands of people gathered yesterday afternoon, Saturday, July 1, in the Zócalo Mexico City to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the 2018 election victory of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

During his speech, which lasted more than an hour, Mexican president vows to end violence in the country before the expiration of his term of office.

“No new taxes have been created and there is something that is very valuable: there is justice and public peace and progress is moving towards the eradication of violence, we are going to achieve this together, I’m tired goose”, he claimed.

Accompanied by members of his cabinet, Mexico’s chief executive said that the movement he led, the so-called Fourth Transformation of the Country, was supported by the majority in the country.

“Exists vast majority support the Fourth Transformation public life in Mexico. The pact worked, the pact between the people and their government was sealed with the principle of care and respect for all, but paying special attention and always supporting the help of the poor and needy,” he said.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador said his opponents aim to return to the “old regime of corruption” by 2024 and accused them of operating like an oligarchy.

“(Opponents) continue to speak in their rhetorical demagoguery in the name of democracy, but act like an oligarchy and shamelessly and even ridiculously defend the old regime of corruption and privatization,” he said.

López Obrador insisted that Mexican businessman Claudio J. González would be the one who would decide who would be the next candidate from opposition political parties in the 2024 presidential election, and assured opponents of his government did not understand that the city was already changing mentality when corruption is unacceptable.

“The reactionaries of our time (opposition) every time offend people’s mindsThey act brazenly and believe that they are going to win back power,” he stressed.

In addition to attacking the opposition, the Mexican president reiterated that his government’s priority is the poor, and stressed the “nationalization” of energy sources such as lithium, the fight against corruption and the protection of the country’s cultural roots.

“The pact worked, the pact between the people and their government was sealed by the principle of service and respect for all, but bestowal special attention and always give priority to helping the poor and needy”, said.

López Obrador was accompanied to the mass event by his wife, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller; former head of government of Mexico City Claudia Sheinbaum; former Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard; former Interior Minister Adan Augusto López; and Morena’s former leader in the Senate, Ricardo Monreal, among others.
