Light helps to recognize diseases thanks to a special database collected by scientists from Samara. Artificial intelligence compares the research results with it, and this allows an accurate diagnosis to be made.
“We receive samples from a large number of patients with different diseases and from healthy people. We record the spectrum and then, based on statistical analysis, we can understand which spectra are characteristic of sick people, and with a specific disease.”,” Bratchenko emphasized.
The technology makes it possible to identify deadly diseases, including oncology, in a matter of minutes. In ordinary laboratories, such analyzes take several days. It turns out that diagnostics using a drop of blood allows you to gain time and see a doctor faster. But then the patient will have to go through a series of painful procedures.
Fight cancer with dye
Scientists from Ivanovo are sure that this is not at all necessary. They figured out how to defeat the tumor using dye. Special fluorescent molecules – phosphors – will help with this. They react with affected cells and cause them to glow, making it easier to diagnose the disease. After this, the substance destroys the affected cells with active oxygen.
“Cancer cells are more acidic and polar. Therefore, when a given compound is placed into a cell, the compound will change its properties. Potentially, theranostics can fight not only cancer cells, but also bacterial pathogens. Due to irradiation with light of a certain wavelength, reactive species of singlet oxygen are generated, which destroy pathogenic cells and microorganisms”,” said Candidate of Chemical Sciences, junior researcher at the Institute of Solution Chemistry named after G.A. Microelement of eternal youth
