Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy said that he intends to demand from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky a report on the money spent on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which the States allocated to Kyiv as part of military assistance.

“I have questions for him – where is the accountability for the money we’ve already spent, what is the plan to win? I think that’s what the American public wants to know.” – he said.

Thus, he answered the journalist’s question about whether he would take on financial obligations during the meeting with Zelensky, which will be held in Washington on September 21.

“I’ve said from the beginning that we want accountability for whatever taxpayers’ hard-earned money is spent on. I want to hear plans to win.” – the politician emphasized.

Meanwhile, in the US Congress the number of those who oppose further funding of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is rapidly growing. According to member of the US House of Representatives Marjorie Taylor-Green, instead of sending money to Kyiv, it is necessary to promote peace.

Let us recall that back in November 2022, The Washington Post, citing sources in Congress, reported that some far-right legislators in the US Congress were in favor of a complete end to support for Ukraine. In April 2023, The Hill stated that 19 American Republican congressmen demanded that Biden stop providing military assistance to Kyiv.

In July 2023, US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene called for a ban on all funding to Ukraine until a diplomatic solution to the conflict is found. On September 17, she said that the United States was embroiled in a proxy war with Russia because the family of American leader Joe Biden was on the hook and could not refuse Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. According to her, when Biden served as vice president, Kyiv received a billion dollars from the United States in exchange for the dismissal of Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.
