Free accommodation: Lighthouse keepers post ‘special’ messages in bottles

The letters contain various offers of free accommodation for one, two or five people.

Keepers of a historic lighthouse in Michigan, USA, are offering free accommodation as part of an unusual competition. They’re sending messages in bottles to the Great Lakes. UPI writes about this.

The White Shoal Light Historical Society launched a “Message in a Bottle” contest as part of the building’s 113th anniversary celebration. Located about 20 miles west of the Mackinac Bridge on Lake Michigan, the tower is the tallest lighthouse in the Great Lakes.

Each of the four vials of letters thrown into the gorge contains a message from one of four descendants of the long-time gamekeeper George Keller.

The messages include various free accommodation offers for one, two or five people.

The Message in a Bottle competition commemorates the Armistice Day storm in November 1940, when Keller and a colleague threw a message in a bottle into the water in case they did not survive the storm. They survived, and their message was found a few weeks later by fishermen in Gros Cap, Michigan.

“We thought it would be great to commemorate this history,” said Jill Ore, head keeper of the White Shoal Lighthouse.

Previously Focus He wrote that a woman bought an abandoned house along with a “precious treasure.” The property had been derelict since the early 2000s, and when Maggie McGaugh first moved in, it was still furnished with old furniture but was in need of a deep clean. While examining her new belongings, the woman found many valuable things.

It was also learned that the developer made a playground from 9 logs. Local residents are not happy with the construction company’s behavior because there is nothing for children in their area. Houses in this part of the city cost over half a million pounds.
