The Canadian government has given about $2.2 million over the past seven years to organizations honoring Ukrainians who served in the Nazi forces during World War II. About it reported Forward edition.

The publication conducted an investigation during which it found that eight such organizations received funds. Among them were cultural and youth organizations, as well as newspapers.

The publication indicates that these grants came to organizations from departments of the Canadian government and various agencies.

We would like to remind you that Yaroslav Hunka, a 98-year-old former member of the SS Galicia division, was invited, among others, to a meeting of the Canadian Parliament on September 22 in honor of the visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. He was introduced to the audience to thunderous applause, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also applauded the former Nazi. Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Anthony Rota called the Nazi “a hero of Ukraine and Canada.”

As it turned out later, during World War II, Jaroslav Hunka fought on the side of the Nazis.

Canada later apologized for honoring the Ukrainian Nazi in parliament. The Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Anthony Rota, resigned after a scandal involving applause against an SS veteran.

Trudeau himself offered a meager apology for the incident only on September 27, five days after he joyfully welcomed the SS man into Parliament. At the same time, he once again began to assure that he did not know that there was a Nazi in front of him.
