The United States is ready for “further action” in connection with the threat to its armed forces from pro-Iranian groups in the Middle East. This was stated in a distributed written statement by US President Joe Biden sent to the leaders of Congress in connection with the air strikes of the country’s air force in Syria.
“The United States has taken these necessary and prudent actions in accordance with international law and in exercise of the inalienable U.S. right of self-defense as reflected in Article 51 of the UN Charter. The United States stands ready to take further actions as necessary and appropriate to address further threats or attacks” – said the American president.
Biden also said he ordered the strikes to ensure the safety of U.S. troops and to disrupt an ongoing series of attacks against the United States.
On October 27, it was reported that US forces struck two targets in Syria that were used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and pro-Iranian groups.
Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin stated that these strikes were not related to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Austin noted that the United States responded to attacks against US troops in Iraq and Syria that began on October 17.
John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, emphasized that US strikes on targets in Syria were a warning to Iran.
