The Russian side decided to lift sanctions against Yevgeny Muraev after the SBU announced his suspicion of treason. He faces up to 15 years in prison in Ukraine.
Russian authorities decided to lift sanctions against former Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevgeny Muraev. This was because the SBU’s suspicion of treason was announced in absentia. This was reported by the Russian publication RIA Novosti.
“The Council of Ministers of the Russian Federation removed former Verkhovna Rada deputy Muraev from the list of persons against whom special economic measures were implemented,” the message said.
Former People’s Deputy Muraev received suspicion of treason from the SBU
On July 25, 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported suspicion of treason to the former people’s deputy, Yevgeny Muraev, head of the banned pro-Russian Nashi party.
“The security service has collected evidence against the leader of the banned Nashi party, former people’s deputy Yevgeny Muraev, who was involved in subversive activities against Ukraine,” the SBU said in its statement.
The SBU stated that Muraev used his own television channel “Nash” to spread Kremlin narratives and manipulate public opinion of Ukrainians in the interests of the Russian Federation. In particular, the media source provided distorted information about Ukraine’s internal situation and its perception in the international arena.
In November 2022, SBU officers conducted a search on Yevgeny Muraev. Cash, including Russian rubles, weapons, computer equipment, mobile phones, books on Russian history and other materials were later seized.
It should also be noted that he faces up to 15 years in prison under part 1 of article 111 (treason) and part 1 of article 161 (violation of equal rights of citizens) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In June 2022, the appeals court banned the activities of Muraev’s Nashi party, which the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice included in the list of pro-Russian political forces.
