The United States insists that Ukraine should become a member of NATO, but understands that this will only be possible if all other members of the alliance agree. This was stated by First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Yuri Kim.
According to her, US President Joe Biden constantly repeats that Ukraine should be accepted into NATO and its future is in Europe, but there are demands that must be met.
“We are also making it very clear that we continue to support NATO’s open door policy. As we move forward, you will see our steps continue to prepare Ukraine for membership.”Kim said at an Atlantic Council seminar in Washington.
The Secretary of State added that the American government is trying to create guarantees that Ukraine will “become a NATO member that contributes” to collective security.
Earlier, The Washington Post wrote that there are signs that indicate NATO countries are tired of the conflict in Ukraine. As an example, the author of the article cites the refusal of the new Slovak authorities to provide assistance, which was agreed upon by the country’s former Cabinet of Ministers.
