A District of Columbia federal court has rejected former US President Donald Trump’s request to dismiss the criminal case over the storming of the Capitol. This is evidenced by documents posted in the court’s electronic database.

It is noted that Trump filed motions to dismiss the charges against him, based on presidential immunity and constitutional rights.

The court rejects both requests“, the documents say.

The defense of the former US President referred to the fact that in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 elections, he enjoys “presidential immunity.” However, the judge did not agree with this. She pointed out that ex-presidents are not entitled to “special conditions” in court.

In November, a Colorado court found Trump involved in the storming of the Capitol. Following the consideration of the case, the judge admitted that the former head of the White House “provoked” the uprising through his actions and public statements.

Donald Trump supporters attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Their actions provoked a shutdown of Congress for several hours. Hundreds of people were subsequently arrested on charges related to their participation in the assault.
